Homeschool Curriculum Advantages

Not sure if using a curriculum in your homeschooling is right for you?

Deciding whether to use a curriculum in your homeschool is a big decision. (And yes, it is ok not to use a curriculum!).

There are some advantages and disadvantages you need to think about before deciding if this is for you and your family. Some time spent thinking about this in advance could save you an expensive mistake.

Curriculum Advantages

There are several advantages to using a pre-packaged program in your homeschool.

  1. Easy to Follow
Following a program that is laid out for you will make homeschooling simpler and easier. You won't need to worry about what to cover or whether you are missing subjects. Following someone else's idea of an education can give you confidence, especially in the beginning.

  2. Easy to Schedule
You may still have to do some homeschool scheduling, but most of the decisions will be made for you (such as which subjects to follow). It should be much easier for you to plan your day.

  3. Simple Record Keeping
Record keeping should be easier when you are following a laid out program. This may also help in meeting your State requirements.

  4. Stay in your comfort zone
When you start homeschooling it can be a worry as to whether you are 'doing it right'. Following packaged lessons can help you feel more comfortable that your child will get a standard education.

  5. Supplements your knowledge
If you are a little unsure that you have the knowledge and skills to homeschool, then a homeschooling program will lead you through what you need for teaching your child at home.

As well as homeschool curriculum advantages - there are disadvantages. If you are still not sure if a pre-packaged program is right for you, then I recommend you try a free homeschooling curriculum first - this will help you to see if they are a good fit for your family.
